At Wichita Piano the learning never stops. Our team invests in ongoing education by attending the National Piano Technicians Guild Convention each year and participating in manufacturer-sponsored training. This commitment ensures your piano is cared for using the most current techniques and standards in the industry.

Just as important to us is mentoring the next generation of piano technicians. We proudly train apprentices alongside Registered Piano Technicians, preserving the craft and strengthening the future of piano service in our community.

Registered Piano Technician

Gary Telleen, RPT

Gary Telleen is a Registered Piano Technician with over 40 years of expertise in piano technology and piano restoration. He earned his Bachelors from Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas, and his Masters from Northern Arizona University.

For over two decades, Gary owned and operated Classic Piano Restoration in Arizona, specializing in high-quality piano rebuilding and service before relocating back to Central Kansas.

Gary is a member of the Wichita Chapter of the Piano Technicians Guild and has served as an instructor at the Piano Technicians Guild National and Regional Conventions.

Registered Piano Technician

Isaiah Dowds, RPT

Isaiah Dowds is a Registered Piano Technician. He was born in Germany to a military family and raised in the Midwest. He began his formal training in piano technology under the mentorship of Registered Piano Technician Gary Telleen, following his marriage into the family. Alongside his piano work, Isaiah has proudly served in the U.S. Army Reserves for over 12 years.

Isaiah has served as an instructor at the Piano Technicians Guild National Convention and is a member and President of the Wichita Chapter of the Piano Technician's Guild.

Registered Piano Technician

Josh Hermes, RPT

Josh Hermes is a Registered Piano Technician with a strong foundation in music education and performance. A native of Hutchinson, Kansas, Josh was immersed in music from an early age, which led him to pursue a degree in Music Education from Fort Hays State University. He later earned a Master’s degree in Trombone Performance after relocating to Kansas City with his wife.

Josh briefly taught music and band in the Wichita area before discovering his passion for piano technology. He began his career with Wichita Piano, training under the mentorship of Registered Piano Technician Gary Telleen.

Josh is a member and Vice President of the Wichita Chapter of the Piano Technicians Guild.

Shop Technician

John Telleen

John Telleen brings years of hands-on experience and a lifelong connection to the piano industry. John began moving pianos in his early teens and has traveled through the majority of the United States as part of long-distance piano moving.

After high school, John pursued a career as a professional barber in McPherson, Kansas before returning to the family business. He now serves as an experienced piano mover and shop technician focusing on rebuilds, finish repairs, and complete piano detailing.

John is a member of the Wichita Chapter of the Piano Technicians Guild.

Trevor Penner

Trevor grew up and lives in the Hillsboro, KS area. He studied piano at the Tabor College Music Preparatory School for 13 years. His passion for making music at the piano combined with an insatiable curiosity for how things work led to a pursuit of piano technology as a career. He has apprenticed with Gary Telleen, RPT.

Trevor is a member of the Wichita chapter of the Piano Technicians Guild.

Piano Technician Apprentice

Malachi Williams

Malachi is from Great Bend, KS and has been involved in music ever since elementary school. He has played multiple instruments over the years and has been playing piano longer than any other instrument. After graduating from Kansas State University Malachi became interested in piano technology and began apprenticing with Registered Piano Technician Gary Telleen.

Malachi is a member of the Wichita chapter of the Piano Technicians Guild.

Rebecca Dowds

Hello! I’m Rebecca, the daughter of Gary Telleen. My brother John and I represent the second generation of Wichita Piano Services. From an early age I was immersed in the family business - from going on piano tuning days with my dad (reading my book or doing homework while listening to him tune a customer’s piano), working in the restoration shop, or going on piano moves - my absolute favorite part of the business! In 2019 I took over running the daily operations of the family business.

I am a member of the Wichita chapter of the Piano Technicians Guild and have served as an instructor at the Piano Technicians Guild National Convention.
