Pianos with Fire & Water Damage
A piano need not be exposed to flames or direct water contact to sustain significant fire-related damage.
Smoke can deposit corrosive compounds and particles throughout the instrument, while extreme
environmental changes can stress its wooden structure and precision mechanisms. Some resulting
deterioration may not be immediately visible. Therefore, exterior appearance, lack of odor, or the ability to
play and tune should not alone determine whether the piano has been restored to its pre-loss condition.
A qualified piano restoration professional should evaluate significant exposure and document observed
conditions, reasonable long-term concerns, restoration feasibility, and any inspection limitations.
Coverage and settlement decisions remain subject to the policy and facts of the loss.
